These are inspired by 1930s trousers. Back then, before belts were really a thing, people relied on suspenders and a buckle back. We kept that classic buckle back detail and paired it with our own custom metal hardware, but we added belt loops to make them way more practical for everyday wear.
For the fabric, we went with 100% hand-woven cotton. Since traditional handlooms only weave up to 45cm wide, it actually takes a massive amount of fabric to cut just one pair.
To get that authentic, lived-in feel, we distress the finished pants and treat them with natural sun-fading and dyeing techniques. The best part? We added patchwork based on the exact mending styles and placements from Ken's personal vintage collection. We mixed different fabrics for the patches, like ink-dyed linen/cotton blends, naturally dyed 100% silk, and a fine cotton check. This gives the whole piece a ton of visual depth and texture.
